Kunchikal Waterfall is so Famous. But Why?
Kunchikal Waterfall is located in Nidagodu Village in the Shimoga district of Karnataka state. It is formed by the Varahi river. The several waterfalls formed by the other rivers flow down with the Varahi river, adding elegance to the location. Now the question is why is it so famous? The answer is it is known as India’s Highest Waterfall and Asia’s Second Highest Waterfall.
The total height of the fall is 445 meters (1493 feet). Due to Mani Dam and underground power generation station, the water flow is gently reduced in a normal season and visible only in the rainy season i.e. from July to September. It is within the restricted area, Gate pass is required to visit there and it is issued at Hosangadi village.
To reach there, the nearest airport is Mangalore International airport which is about 138 km from Kunchikal Waterfall.
