In this blog we will talk about North Andaman, the main town of North Andaman is Diglipur. It is about 298 km from Capital of Andaman Port Blair and 80 km from Mayabunder. Major Attractions are Ram Nagar, Alfred Caves, Ross and Smith Island.

Ram Nagar, It is around 33 km south of Diglipur and takes around 1 hour. The Beach is Surrounded by Palm and Coconut trees. There is limited facility and couple of small shops near the bus stand.            Forest department is slowly developing the beach into an eco-friendly area. Tree houses are present here where you can spend some time. It is also known as a turtle nesting ground for Olive Ridley Turtles that’s the reason beach will close at 5 pm.

Alfred Caves, Diglipur is home to more than 41 unexplored caves, one of which was Alfred Caves. These limestone caves are similar to the ones that are in Baratang, but it is completely different due to the dense forest. To reach the caves you have to trek for about an hour through narrow forest. Taking a Guide is essential as It becomes impossible to find paths. The best time to visit the caves is from October to April, as in rainy season the paths are slippery and unsafe. Do not forgot to carry extra shoes pair and plenty of water. It is a den for swiftlets and Fruit eating bats. The cave with a very narrow entrance and open up into chain of small caves inside.

Now let’s talk about last Destination of this Blog, Ross and Smith Island, It is one of the most popular destinations for the travelers planning for Diglipur. Entry fee and Permit is required to visit the Island from Forest office at Diglipur between 6am to 2pm. Entry fee for Adult INR 50 and Child INR 25 Camera INR 25. To reach the Island you have to take boat from jetty which cost around INR 2000 for 06 Persons and Beyond 6 INR 200 per person. The Mystery of this unique place and experience how someone can walk from one Island to other where there is the open sea in between. When you land at the place, during the low tides you get to see a sand bar connecting the two islands on which you can walk to reach from one island to the other. When the tide rises, the sand bar is covered by the sea and you see two completely different islands during the high tides that make this amazing place look exalted. Overnight stay is not Allowed at Ross and Smith Island.

  1. Red Skin Island should also be on your list for a perfect andaman vacation. It is less visited on a Andaman Trip, but its amazing.
