Why Tourists are not allowed in Nicobar?
Why Tourists are not Allowed in Nicobar? || Andaman and Nicobar is the Union Territory of India having
572 islands of which only 37 are inhabited. The Andaman has
325 islands which cover an area of 6,170 square km and Nicobar has 247 islands
with an area of 1,765 square km. You can only visit 12 islands that are in
Andaman, but you cannot visit even a single island in Nicobar. Why? In this
blog, you will know about it.
The Nicobar Islands are the motherland of two tribal
communities (Nicobarese and Shompen). The Indian government has been a big
concern for them. They don’t want the outer world to disturb their living. The
Shompen Community is still living inside the dense forest of Great Nicobar. On
the other side, the Nicobarese people got the education, Government jobs, and
living a standard life like us. But still, they don’t want to let the tourist
and other sort of people inside because they know that the results will be
disastrous to them and to nature.
Apart from the Tribal Concern, Nicobar is 1500 km from the
mainland. Those people who work for some Tribal NGOs, Government officials,
Forest Officials are only allowed to visit the Nicobar Islands. They have to
get a tribal pass from DC (Andaman) at Port Blair. Government is spending a lot
in the Tribal Welfare to keep these Islands alive. The main Islands of Nicobar
are Car Nicobar, Little Nicobar, and Great Nicobar. These islands are
vulnerable for the invasion of other countries, so to safeguard the territory,
Indian Government have kept the Navy, IB, and police forces in the islands.
